Talking 2008 Rubicon Two Days Old

Hello everyone, just picked up my new Rubi a few days ago and so far it has been great...drove an old cj back in the mid eighties and what a difference...I hope someone can answer a few questions for me here on the forum...

1. The rubi is scheduled to go to dealership on Monday to have the drivetrain checked. The problem I am having is unlike anything I have searched for here on the forum. When going thru the gears if my RPM's are over 3K as soon as I put my foot down on the clutch and switch i get a strange noise coming from below. Hard to describe almost sounds like linkage rattling. I have read alot about the TSB with the clutch but the famous "squek" is not happening I am having a different sound altogether. If I go thru the gears in moderation and switch just before 3K rpm than no noise....anyhow have any thoughts?

2. Can the soft top be removed from the vehicle without taking the hardtop off?

3. Mygig wow this thing is great but my uconnect is not functioning. Is this a seperate service you pay for or is it restricted in certain areas...I live in Toronto CANADA.

Thanking everyone in advance for your help....

welcome to the site.
Congrats on the Rubi.

Cant answer #1.

#2. not really but you can remove the bolts have someone lift the hardtop then you can remove the soft top without completely removing the hard top.
#3. uconnect does not work from the factory. you can update the software with 9.712 and buy a microphone then that will make it work.

Don't use the 9.712 BETA, it's glitchy, check out the post in the Electronics section about the Chrysler official 9.713 release that was shipping out from Harman Becker yesterday, send them an email with your address and get their free CD, upload that version.

As stated you have to remove the hardtop first, confused me too when I got my Rubi in. Tell you what when you decide to try out the softop do it on a good hot day to help stretch the fabric, and tip on getting the top to latch up, well latch it up front first and have someone carefully pull down each corner (slowly) in the back, it'll stretch correctly and slideinto place on the corners. Took me a bit to figure that out, had about 6" of space up at the lastch when I did the rear corners first.

I had a similar rattle, the squeak was their at a later time, but the rattle was the initial and they swapped out the throwout bearing per the TSB that was out, fixed my problem. Still if I barely ride the clutch it'll rattle slightly but you shouldn't ride the clutch anyways so the problems been taken care of.

congrats on the Rubi you'll love it.

SASQUATCH, thx a great deal...so you had the same problem while changing gears at 3200 rpm...you got his strange rattle noise...

Thx a bunch also re: the soft top install suggestions...from what i heard it sounds like you need an engineering degree

I will look into that official download from Chrysler re: uconnect...

First off, congrats on the new RubiJeep and welcome to the club.

#1 My GF has an 08 rubi 2Dr manual and had a strange noise and the tech found the Tubing going from the clutch booster to the slave cylinder was vibrating on the body.

#2 You basically need to remove the hard top to get the soft top out, I was able to due it with out but it was REALLY dangerous.

#3 The Uconnect does NOT work from the factory as they say "the jeep makes too much noise with the top off or open" but this is easily disproven by the many of us that have the update and a mic.

my rattle was at various rpms, but it turned out to still be the throwout bearing.
