2009 Front Door Glass Damage (design flaw)
.
Just wanted to throw this up on the forum for others who have 2009 JK's with power doors and windows...
One day after getting in my '09 JK 4Dr, I reached for my seat belt, when I some marks on my door glass in the bottom rear corner. About 4 small marks in the tint. I thought maybe they had been caused by maybe me letting the belt go a few times. Then I looked over at the passenger side glass and saw the same marks, same spot... in the same pattern. This was obviously caused by something inside the door.
I drove down to the stealership and had the service counter have a look. They too were baffled and had never seen this before. They scheduled me for the following Saturday so they could tear into the doors and take a look.
Saturday came around, and they did find the cause of the marks in the tint. Apparently one of the wire loom harness' attaching clips, is about 1/16" of an inch from glass when the windows are in the down position. Add in vibration from driving, and contact is made.
The service writer said he had to contact the Jeep tech guys and ask how to proceed... being a design issue and needing to know what changes to make. I called the other day, and he says I'm to bring my Jeep back, and they will try to remove the current harness fastener and add in a different one that will do the job, but without causing damage. Then they will re-tint both door glasses. They say the earlier year JKs didn't have the same harness configuration.
For those who also have 4Dr '09 models with power windows and doors... keep an eye out for tint/window marks. Not sure if a TSB will be created to modify all JKs with potential, or not. I'll try and post up pics of views inside the door, if the dealership will let me look before the change things. Here's one of the marks. Kind of hard to see with reflections. I tried to hold up something black against the glass to help see them.

Hmmmmm! Thanks for the info! This should apply to 2-Dr's as well, since the 2-Dr and the Unlimited's use the same front doors. I'll check mine tomorrow!
Thanks again!
Best of Luck on the repairs!
Cheers!

Also thanks for the heads up, I will also look. I took my windows out to tint them but didnt notice the wires.
It is hard to tell from the pic, but my '09 4 dr has no marks on any window.
I don't use the AC very often, so my windows get a good workout.
It might just be a problem with your elevator adjustment.

Not sure on when the tint was applied. I bought it new, and tint was listed on the sticker. Dealership says they acquired one of the best tint guys in town to do their work.
Even in Arizona, I don't run my AC, so mine stay down a lot.
dali555 - Not sure, but worth the try.

I don't know if it is a related problem for anyone else but on my 2 door 08 I have a small dot on the rear bottom corner of my tinted windows. It's a very small hole in a perfect circle in the same spot on each side.
