I have same problem on the passenger side. The carpet would be wet but no water on top of slush mats. I took the slush mats out so the carpet would dry. I havnt put them back in and havnt had water issues. Maybe it was just an absurd amount of condensation build up. Not sure, maybe just coincidence. But keep us posted on what dealer says/ does to correct the problem.

In my 09 they replaced every seal multiple times and rugs twice. The water seemed to run down the fire wall and under the Matt. Never wet in the top. Would literally cause the matts to float on occasion.

GENTLEMEN, This is my first post here.
ive owned a '12 jk for about 9 months and i have had the drivers side leak problem the whole time. the dealership ive dealt with stated they needed 2 days to fix the problem- they refused to give a loaner even though i bought it from them and it is still WELL with in warranty (less than 11,000 miles).

well they can piss off.

this is what we're all dealing with right?

first thing i did was put some sealant around the drain plugs. nope, not it.
ive read a ton of reviews and the report that "its a jeep and it leaks" keep popping up. UNACCEPTABLE.
Ive owned a 94' xj, a 96' xj and a 91' yj that were full of rust holes that leaked less than this; not to whing. ive spent nearly a years pay on this jeep and it shouldn't leak. chrysler, if your reading this i need to have a nice sit-down with you.

Ive pulled the interior repeatedly to find the source of the leaks and this is what ive found:

when you remove the the drivers side floor trim there are 2 plastic clips that hold the trim in place that have foam gaskets behind them. these:

located here:

you can see how the gasket is wet eh?
well they attach to these holes (covered by the silver tape):

after dis-assembly and leak-down testing (spraying with a hose) the exterior and seals i found water to be coming in these holes. which is why they had gaskets on them i guess :/ quick question: so they knew water would get in these holes so instead of coming up with a better securement solution they just said "eh, whatever." and put gaskets that dont work. Ok, fine. someones being lazy. so some strong waterproof tape and im gold. the trim holds in place just fine; not loose at all.

thought that had it. NOPE.

enter the POLAR VORTEX. Or as i like to call it a "kickass winter"; and the carpet is FROZEN SOLID. i figure its water from my boots... well i have weather tech floor mats installed so no. still leaky.

so monday night in 10 degree weather i go to work; pulled the drivers side interior again and do another leak-down test and find something amazing:
while a friend sprayed the exterior i sat inside, upside down with my head in the footwell. no leaks. ok, engine compartment test: BINGO.
the bracket that holds the master cylinder to the fire wall is mounted with 4 bolts (non of which are accessible from the interior of the jeep and only 2 are easily accessible from the engine compartment without all manor of extentions, and angle devices). behind the master cylinder there is a gasket, which can juuuust be seen here:

interior view:

the bold at the 9 o'clock position leaks like a faucet, as does the one above it ( that is not visible from the interior but is visible from the engine compartment at the 3 o'clock).
the reason for this is the gasket that is behind the master cylinder stops before the bolts and they are not encircled. this is, again, incomprehensibly lazy on the part of chrysler. or fiat. or who ever.

solution:
silicon sealant.

all 4 bolts where loosened as much as possible without removing reservoir or brake lines or computer or any of the crap thats in the way. the brake peddle is depressed by assistant and sealant is pushed into gap between firewall and bracket at all 4 bolts (from the engine bay). then sealant is pushed into/ around bracket in the foot well as best as possible, tight space. (if you have small, girlish infant hands this will be easy for you. if not; well have fun).
the bolt were then tightened.

as of today, no leaks. left the carpet out to be sure.

hopefully this works. because if not im going to have a stroke.

FYI: pull the drivers seat out of the jeep for this. its impossible otherwise.

ALSO, look back at the picture of the footwell where the silver tape is: see that sealant job along the kick panel/floor board? who ever did that should be ashamed and the inspectors/supervisors that ok'ed that to leave the factory should be drug into the street and beaten with sticks.

What the hell is wrong with this country? when did mediocrity become acceptable?

I can't tell you how much I feel and have felt your pain. I've own a LOT of jeeps. Some rust buckets when I was a teen all the way to my latest 13. I had a 2009 that not only did the drivers side get wet but on occasion the passenger side. And when I say get wet I mean the dam quadratech liners matts would float like a battlship. Not a drop of water on the top but and inch or two under! Well this morning I went out to go to work and lifted the driver may to shake off the overkill of salt my state spreads like we are in the artic and low and behold .... Frozen to the effin carpet. So I rip it off and toss it over and put inferno heat onto floor.

I had my 09 back so many times that I filed a lemon law suit on my 09 and Won! So **** YOU Chrysler! Your lucky we all love Jeeps and Are apparently smarter then your engineers.

Anyway, please keep us posted on the leak progress and if you think that fixed it. I know how frustrating it is after spending good money on your baby and dealing with this off the bat. And I agree. "It's a jeep. It leaks" is not acceptable.

My email is acffish@comcast.net Reach out anytime. I'm glad it's not just me but sucks it's also you.

Great blog topic. Let's figure this shit out and hope Chrysler is flowing this!

Well. Update to the leaks. Yesterday in Delaware it rained pretty hard. Guess what!? Give up? Yep. Drivers side carpet drenched under my bone dry liner. My dad bought last Friday and 2014 4 door Sahara. I felt the carpet (raining during his purchase) and it was very damp.

Bottom line, I have a mtg with the servos adviser Monday with the salesmen. ( my friend since high school) to show him this thread and hope that he takes my plead seriously and will look into this. I don't know why he wouldn't since if this fixes the leak, he looks like a hero!

I'll post the results of the meeting.

Pog Mo, how is your solution standing up?
