2011 JK AC Discharge Hose Replacement
Has anyone done this before? It looks fairly simple but I couldn't find any write up online at all. It seems you just remove the 2 bolts, disconnect the electrical line, replace in reverse order and recharge with a can of 134a that I have already purchased from my local auto parts store. Is there anything I am missing??? I'm assuming the system is already discharged since there is a whole in the rubber hose, secondly, does the system need to be vacuumed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have to pull a vacuum on the entire system, wait a few hours to make sure it holds, then refill with 134a. Any air in that is in the system will lead to a quick failure. Do a search on youtube and they walk you through everything. It's not difficult, but a bit tedious. Evacuating the system responsibly is actually the hard part to any ac work. I replaced most of the entire ac system on an old commuter car last summer without ever having done it....and it's still holding strong. You should purge the entire system, and then load it with the factory spec of 134a and oil.
ChrisFix has decent youtube vid that includes pulling a vacuum on the system -
