I did the key turn to get a code and nothing. Just one row of 6 or so dashes ("-") and then "-done-". Is that good, bad? This is so frustrating! What next?? Thanks!

If you haven't done it you really need to check the battery and connections. Another thought, if a vehicle sits for a while rodents have been known to chew on wiring under the hood.
