Default 2012 3.6L Oil Filter Info

Just did the first oil change my my 2012 Wrangler with the 3.6L Pentastar. I used AMSOIL Signiture Series oil and a STP Oil filter. I ordered a WIX oil filter but it was on back order, but wanting to do a oil change since the idiot light came on a 3500 miles, I just bought a STP oil filter with the plan on switching it over the WIX brand when it came in. To my findings during the oil change, the STP filter matched the factory filter. When the Wix filter did come, it seemed to look similar to the STP filter I just put in. Instead of just swapping it out I went back to the store and bought another STP brand, and too my findings, it was an identical match. I also did check out the Bosch brand and it didn't look as good, less filter material, less "weaves" and just overall cheesier looking.

I ordered 10 WIX filters from Filter1.com so I would have them in time for my 1K mile oil change, nice to know the locally sourced STP filter will work too

I also just did my first oil change last weekend and made the switch to Amsoil 5w-30 signature series... A little disappointed there was no long interval filter from Amsoil to go with the oil.. I used a Mopar filter, ( made by purilator) and will be changing it out again midway through the oils lifespan. I have some info on the filters, specs and manufacturers etc.remember that not all oil filter companies are manufactures.. So that explains the similarities in appearance between brands. I'll dig up the info and e- mail it to you.. PM me your address. Very interesting info.

Was there any difference in the cost of the STP over the WIX? Seems the WIX used more material, to make the box! LOL!

It will after 10 oil changes. Buying on the net and not buying in bulk to pay the same shipping

What prices are you seeing? I'm at 1500 miles getting ready for the first change and my stp cost $13!!! Amazingly expensive given there's no metal in it.

I'm just sticking with the Mopar filters. I can get them for under $8 each from my local dealer.

$13 sounds about right. They hit you over the head with this stuff now because the oil change interval is not 3000 miles any more so they have to make up for the loss. Anyone know the cost of the NAPA/WIX brand filters? I've seen auctions on eBay for Mopar filters sold in lots. I was going to check the per cost on those out and maybe get them since I now know their the same as WIX
