2012 JKU with a leaky hardtop... thoughts?
I have a 2012 JK Unlimited with the hardtop and have a leak on the passenger side B-Pillar. This is really the only place that my top leaks consistently. I have not taken it in to the dealer to show to them yet, I probably will when I get the oil changed next time... I just wanted to get yall's opinions on it... I am just concered about my seats getting messed up... since they are leather.
Water doesnt pour in or anything.. it really only comes in when I am accelerating or slowing down.. I think when the water moves along the seal it kind of finds a way to get inside..
My first question is this.. take a look at the below picture of the alignment of my front panels.. does that look correct? I have taken them off along with the hardtop.. but the panels are on as they should, i.e. the alignment pegs are in the holes in the sport bar...

The following three pictures are of the location of the leak..

any insight you can provide is much appreciated..
thanks alot.

I had leaks on my 11 JKU hardtop but they were on the A Pillar. I would check the knobs in the sound bar for the freedom panels and make sure they aren't too tight or too loose.
Dealer put stiffening rings in the door seals and re aligned doors to fix my problem. The only concern I had with having the dealer work on it was they would make it worse.

Yeah.. the middle gap is larger in the back than in the front... I will take them off and reinstall sometime this weekend.
I will still probably get the dealer to take a look at it at the next oil change.

Looking at your picture above showing your front panels. It looks as though your passenger side isn't in place correctly. Where it meets the windshield, it looks like it sits higher and sits crooked all together
First question...are you sure it's the roof, and not the door seal? I can't tell from the pics.
Check the weatherstrip where the panels meet, and also where there's some extra foam and seal at the corner where the door meets the roof.
I've got a 2012 as well, and when I bought it, the panels weren't aligned correctly. It looked as if a sales person had done a demo for a customer or something and then kind of half-assedly put them back in place. Everything was loose, and the seal in the center didn't look right.
That said, when I got it home, I took everything off. It was new, but I went ahead and wiped down all the seals and inspected them, cleaned everything up perfect. I read up on how to reinstall the roof panels correctly, and did just that.
I don't like the way the roof panels align. Like yours, mine has a disparate gap at the center channel between the front and the rear. This has to do with how that center seal channels water, but the fitment of the panels can be better if you have someone literally push towards the center of the vehicle while you reinstall the driver's panel. That doesn't fix your passenger side issue, however since the right panel installs first.
After you check it, if you don't find anything obvious, definitely take it back to the dealer. Past experience with removable-panel roofs (I've had t-top Camaros for years) tells me that sometimes things don't always fit together as planned and you only need to fix it once before it seals and is happy for a long time, usually when you first get it.

Do not over tighten the sound bar bolts. Just barely snug, look at the top and see if it is sunk in if so too tight. Trust me, mine are so loose they rattle when the radio is turned up, then no leak. That is once they replaced the seal too.

I'm on my third JK (6th Jeep). All the JKs have leaked. That's just what they do. Working to fix each one just made it worse. It gets really bad in 3 years when the crappy foam that the whole system is reliant upon degrades around the tops of the doors.
My suggestion is to remove the carpet and deal with it. It's a JK thing. The seats are going to be alright.

My jk is my fifth jeep, I would never accept a leak. They aren't $10,000 Kia's I'm not going to pay that much money to sit in a musty smelling jeep. The dealer can fix it, here is link of you want to try fixing yourself http://www.jeep-club.net/graphics/ma..._Leaks_All.pdf
Thanks for the input everybody. Yeah I will take it to the dealer soon to get them to look at it. As far as the "it's a jeep thing" argument.... I refuse to accept that on a $38,000 vehicle.
Thanks again. I will keep y'all posted on what the dealer says/does
