Default 2012 Oil Filter

Is it me or do others think the Oil Filter for the 2012 looks like a Tampon? I have never seen an oil filter that loks like this. Then again, I have not changed my own oil in almost 10 years and 3 vehicles ago.

That and one less mess to clean up, unlike the previous 3.8l

Now I need to figure out where this thing goes. With normal looking filters the thing stuck out like a sore thumb. What's the easiest way of accessing it?

Thanks I've been under there a few times and never noticed it. I'll pop it off to,or row after my Dyno run.

these drop in CARTRIDGE filters have been around for years....
ive got 4 vehicles with 'em on...including our 1984 Mercedes 300CD.

while they vary in size (the one on our 13L Detroit Diesel Motorcoach is huge) theyre all better and easier than the traditional spin on filters (wish my wifes '10 miata had a cartridge).

when you change the oil & filter, open the filter housing FIRST and let it drain w/ the oil -
generally speaking these cartridge filters have a CHECK VALVE in the housing to prevent drain back w/ the vehicle is not running.
