2013 Rubicon 10a inner seals 2 piece or 1 piece
Hi all,
Just noticed my drivers side front axles are leaking badly. I was looking over to determine the extent of this job. It does look time consuming but doable. I have a few questions:
should i order the newer 2 piece design- i saw posts that said they had a difficult time putting them in?
( i do have that inner seal installer tool that i bought from amazon 30 bucks)

I've had both styles and my opinion is that one is not better than the other (they both can fail just as easily). My preference is the single-piece ones that have been used for years in axles. I don't recall the 2-piece ones being any harder to install though. This is indeed a little time-consuming but is really a great DIY project for most that have not disassembled their axle before. Be sure to lube your axle shaft well and use care when inserting it so you don't kick that new seal. Also, if you've never removed that unit bearing make sure you have a 12-pt 13mm socket for those bolts (few bucks at auto store if you don't have one).
Your advice is spot-on for anyone tackling this kind of DIY project. Proper lubrication of the axle shaft and careful handling to protect the new seal are crucial steps.
