Door sill protectors are super cheap and easy to install. Husky liners for the front. Teraflex leveling kit for the look! Replace the rubber condom that the manual JK has for a shifter boot with a real leather one.
That is what I have done to my 2012 that is fairly cheap and simple. I also installed some sound deadening under the carpets but that is a more intensive project.

^^^yep, change all fluids (use fluids that meet Chrysler specs). I changed all mine early on and found that the fluid in my manual trans was half full from the factory (it was a 2013).
Change the trans, t-case, and diff fluids.
Not sure where you live, but once every couple months, at least hit a dirt road and shift into 4wd and 4lo and also engage the lockers. Will help keep things working long term.

As far as changing over to synthetics, should I wait for the first oil change service at the dealer or do it as soon as possible? Does this include synthetic engine oil?
I chose the change to synthetic oil at my second change which was at 10,000 miles. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. Change it whenever you want. I did synthetic differential fluid at 5k but only because I tow my toyhauler. If I didn't tow I would have waited until 15k. I changed my transfer case and transmission around 27,000.
Not mentioned yet is replacing the stock control arm and track bar bolts. If you plan on keeping your Jeep long term, I'd do this before almost any other mod. The stock hardware diameter is too small and eventually will wallow out the frame holes.
