Can't figure out what the function of this part is, as it doesn't seem to serve a useful purpose. It sits right above the rear door post roll bar when the top is up. One of mine broke where the plastic snap-strap is sewn into the fabric strap. Going to have it replaced under warranty, but just curious if anyone can explain what it does. This is on the premium top.

 

They are the spring assist retaining straps. If you look on the brackets where they attach to the roll bar brackets, you'll see a small slot hook. These straps are unsnapped and then slid down the frame. You hook them on the slot hook and the it holds your spring assist mechanism from unwinding when you remove the top from the Jeep, as I do when switching to hardtop in winter.
