Default 2014 Overheats after start then drops back down

I have a 2014 JKUR that overheats when I start it and begin driving. It gets to 240's or 250 after several minutes of driving, then pretty quickly drops back down and stays around 213-222. Once it drops back down it seems fine.

Earlier this year I had a P0128 code, so I replaced the thermostat and housing (found hairline crack). The new thermostat is is Duralast.

Could the new Duralast thermostat be the issue? Maybe it is sticking???

*Jeep has just under 60k miles, 35" tires, 4.56 gears.

It could indeed be the thermostat. I always stick with Mopar for that. First thing would be to confirm if the system has any air in it. remove that radiator cap one morning and ensure it's full with coolant. noticing any decrease in your resi level? If there is no air in the system I would suspect the thermostat.

I have been down the same road you're on with the Duralast thermostats and found out that they do indeed open way too slow, or not enough to allow enough flow for these already poorly designed cooling systems. Like everyone is saying, pay more for the MOPAR thermostat. And burp the system more times than you think neccessary.

Thanks Jay2013jk, I have a similar funnel kit and recently burped my JK. There was air in the system and it fixed a sloshing noise I was hearing, but did not solve the overheating issue. I will order a Mopar thermostat to replace the Duralast one that is in there.

RwH - I spent a good 45 minutes burping it, starting the process over multiple times. I think you all are right. It must be the Duralast thermostat. I will replace it with the Mopar one. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
