2017 no start
Hello all!
This is my first post. I have a 2017 JKU. it is almost entirely stock and has 28,000 miles on it. I went out to start it and the engine would turn over but it would not even try to start. The check engine light was on, and the fuel gauge was pegged to E.
I got on line and the first thing I saw was the possibility of a bad ignition switch. Since the switch had turned to the start position but then had to be turned back to run (rather than the spring return to run that it had always had), I thought that made sense and purchased a new switch. After installing that (no small feat in the 2017), I found the problem had not changed.
Next on line was a suggestion that the start solenoid in the TIPM had crapped out. This apparently had been an ongoing problem in MOPAR products for a while. I checked the fuses, and could not get power to the fuel pump fuse. I attempted to bypass the solenoid with a fused wire, and could not hear the pump run or get the Jeep to start.
Next I had read that rodents could have chewed up the fuel pump and sender wire. I crawled under the Jeep and using a mirror was able to visually see they had not been damaged.
So I joined this forum hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I am in no way a technician or mechanic, but I do need to get this going.
I appreciate any help you might throw my way.
Thanks,
Len

No, I don't have a code reader. Wish I did, and may need to get one. This is my first dealing with a newer Jeep. My last two Jeeps were a 47 and a 62. I knew how to work on those!

There's a lot of different ones available from a Bluetooth dongle and an app on your phone to dedicated readers. Get what you are comfortable with, it will give you a direction to troubleshoot rather than just blindly throwing parts at it.
And welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome. I hope to add some pix and more info as we go along. I did just get back from Harbor Freight. I picked up a reader and now I am going to go reassemble some stuff then do the code read. I will come back once that is done.

Well, I got a OBD2 reader, plugged it in and ended up only getting Link Error! message. It is a Can-Tech unit from Harbor Freight. Since I am not familiar with this stuff, can anyone give me any other ideas?

Hello again. I went out one last time before dinner and finally got a code PO463. I looked this one up and see it is a fuel sender problem. I will go out tomorrow and try to do a few things to see if I can get the sender to work at least for a while. If the answer is a new sender then I will just have to look forward to that.
I will keep you posted as I go, and many thanks again for replies.

Okay. here is a chicken or egg question. I got my p0463 code so today I started checking again. When my key is in the on position, I am not getting power through the fuel solenoid to the fuel solenoid fuse. When I bypass the fuel pump solenoid fuse the pump does not turn on.
If the pump had gone bad, would the fuel solenoid still work? If the fuel solenoid had crapped out, would that have burned out the pump?
I did climb under the Jeep and pulled the connector hoping that by disconnecting and reconnecting it might "clean up" the prongs a bit to make it work. No good.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Len

Still working on getting my Jeep running. I was hoping someone could give me rough idea of how the wiring harness runs from the fuel tank to the front of the vehicle. i.e. "it goes up through the floor, and then under the carpet", or "attached to the passenger side of the frame rail up to the engine"
Really would appreciate some ideas.
Thanks!
