Default 285 75-16's on Steelies

Has anyone been able to fit a 285 75 on the stock 16 inch steel wheels without spacers??? I could see where there would be issues w/ rubbing on the control arms. I thought about 255 85's, but that size really limits your tire choices. Thanks for the input.

You can get a BFG KM or KO in 255/85R16 as well as the Maxxis Big Horn.

I do.

Placed 2 washers per side on the turn stops so they won't rub on full lock, don't even notice a difference when parking or turning on full lock. Those pics have a 1 3/4" spacer in the front, had 2" of clearance all around. Rear, on stock suspension, had 1" of clearance all around.

The wheels should be at least 7.5" wide to fit a 285/75. I don't know what width the steel wheels are but I think they are less than 7.5 but that has never stopped anyone from running bigger tires. I think the 255/85-16 Goodrich MTs would look great. If I had 16s I'd run 235/85-16 myself like all the 80-90s 3/4T and 1T trucks had from the factory as I always thought that looked nice.

Thanks for the pics suffolk, what brand are those tires? They look good. You said that you put washers on the turn stops...could you explain this a little more.
I planned on putting on 255 85 maxxis bighorns, but have been having trouble finding a dealer locally. I think i'm gonna go w/ 285 Dayton timberline m/t's. I'm not sure if anyone's seen them, b/c i haven't seen anyone running them on this forum. They look like a more agressive version of the firestone destination m/t...but they are about $135 each at the tireshop next to my office.

Even if they rub at full lock, i don't think i will mind b/c this will just temporary. I plan on a bb and wheels w/ proper backspacing shortly after the tires. (backwards, i know, but i want tires NOW!) lol

The steel wheels are 16 x 7 with a 5 inch backspacing.

That does look good, S. As long as you got the clearance that you got, I say roll with it. That's a pretty good footprint for the trails, too.

It's entirely possible. I stopped by my dealer service department and asked them what the backspacing on the 16 x 7 wheel is because I'm replacing mine and they told me it was a 5 inch backspacing. But that's a dealership service department so who knows if those fools knew what they are talking about. They usually don't at dealerships.
