2wd to 4wd
Hey all,
So I have a 4 door 2007 X, and I want to make it a 4wd. It has an auto trany, and I want to keep that.
Suggestions?
I love a good project.
Thanks

You'll need the front end, arm's, assorted steering linkages, new tailhousing for your trans, possible re-flash of the ecu, and a transfer case and assorted linkages.
I would bet it would be real hard to do for less than 6500 buck's. Unload the 2wd and buy the 4wd.

In the Febuary 2008 issue of 4 Wheel Drive & Sport Utility they did a 2wd to 4wd conversion. They didn't give a final cost but they used an Atlas 4sp transfer case, Dynatrac 60's, and a Rancho long arm kit.

I too think it would take a significant amount of upgrades to justify the conversion cost.
How big of an upgrade would make it worthwhile in my opinion?
From the inside -> out:
6.1 Hemi or V10 Viper, or 5.9L Cummins engine
Allison trnasmission
Dana 60's front & rear (locked or course) with 5.13 gears
Advance Adapters Atlas 2 transfer case (4:1)
38" or higher tires
At that level of performance and higher, you've got very little stock Jeep drivetrain.
I have found the ECU & can-buss to be entrenched in almost every useful system, and would love to be able to reprogram the thing the way I want. I imagine that would need to be replaced with a 4wd version as well.
Best of luck bro, you're gonna need it.
