Default 3.8L - Oil issue

Ok guys and gals... So I am having issues with my 07 JK burning oil.
Jeep service tech said some motors will burn about 1 qt per 1,000 miles.
Tech also stated due to lift and 35's, probably also not helping situation with the 4:10 gears.

Anyone heard or have had experience with this. Please help

No way that is normal, 1 qt per 1,000 miles, and if you follow the service interval of 6k you will be out of oil by that time. Lift has nothing to do with oil burn, 35's puts more load but not that drastic to cause oil burn of 1 qt per 1,000 miles

When I was working as a volkswagen tech they came out and said the very same thing... I just think that is a clever way to cover their *ss...if you know what I mean. propbably a good ploy to get us all to come in and do service intervals at 3k instead. Good luck

Yeah I don't think that's normal unless Jeep installed a Rotary engine under the hood.

Did the service tech tell you that you're burning oil or did you find this through doing an oil change yourself? I would say switch to a different brand of oil and filter and monitor your levels. 1 qt/1k miles is a BIG burn.

there are multiple threads on this. there are over 40 reasons why an engine burns or uses excessive oil. it is not normal at all to burn 1qt per 1,000 miles.

most likely u have a leak somewhere or an internal engine problem. a typical engine problem for burning oil is bad rings on the pistons. are you getting smoke out of your exhaust?

as someone asked erlier, how was it determined u are burning oil? was it a tech or are u low when u do an oil change

if you do have smoke out the exhaust, then what color is? is it white, bluish, or black.

if u really are burning that much oil, u may need to get spark plugs changed out or the engine will start to miss fire on which ever cylinder the oil is blowing by.

also, by pulling th spark plugs, you can figure out which cylinder has the blow by and then go from there for repairs.

How much oil are you actually burning off?

None is good, but it sounds like the tech just picked 1qt per 1000 mile BS story.
