I wonder too... I babied mine for a tank, I mean pissed people off I was accelerating so slowly. I manage a wopping 15.3MPG calclualted. Mind you it was city driving but still! No way in hell this thing will get even 20MPG. On flat highway at 65 in cruise it just gets 17MPG. If I drive it like normal I'm down around 14.5.

You guys are nuts getting 24.

First... It's my understanding that simply disconnecting the battery will not blank any of the computer's "memory." That's based on the discussion on the RIPP Supercharger thread, & the guys at RIPP really sound like they know what they are talking about (I don't).

On MPG... For a Stock X Unlimited, I never drop below 17 mpg on a tank. At 60-65 I manage around 22 mpg. Just ran 300 miles all interstate @ 75 & got around 19 mpg. I find the computer is +/- 1 mpg compared to hand calcs.

I drive conservitive too, mainly b/c my kids are with me. i get around 18MPG. mine is an 08 unlimited, ruby, 6speed, stock... SO FAR! i just got a K&N CAI, Unichip & Borla exhaust. hopefully that will wake up the 3.8 AND increase MPG.
so how do i get 24 MPG???????

edit: i run 40 psi
i also use Mobil1 5w20 & K&N oil filter
i need to switch my diffs to synthetic too
MudBoss,

I think two things are working against you. First the 4:10 diffs and the MT tires.

When I had my stock Sahara wheels and tires on my Unlimited, I would get around 18 mpg and my driving is a mix of highway and country back roads., Very little stop and go city driving. When I put the BFGoodrich MTs on, my MPG dropped by about 1 to 1.5 gallons per mile. I'm guessing it has to do with rolling resistance.

I have done two road trips that were 300+ mile interstate driving and traveling betweeen 65 and 75, my calculated MPG with the Sahara tires was 22 MPG. (I haven't done a long trip with the Ruby tires, but I am this weekend)

Thanks .. I missed that thread. I'll check that out as well..

The Rubi's or 07 that have 4:10 aren't likely get the same mileage due to the lower gearing and certainly heavier more aggressive tires will add to the decrease in MPG. Running a tall narrow 33" tire may bring the Rubi in line with a Sahara with 32" and 3:73.

Thanx Keith
maybe i should bump up the PSI in my tires to 80 that would gimme less rolling resistance! it's a jeep thang...
