3 months old and totaled
A week ago Monday I was fishing at Carolina Beach when the tide came in. My 2007 Red rock Rubicon got its feet wet and refused to start, As the tide continued to come it the sand got soft and caused the Jk to lean and get water on the oil pan. I had it towed to the nearest dealer. They look at it and said that it was an Insurance issues and not a manufacturing issue. So the process started. My insurance company sent out an appraiser who started he stuff. It went from a little water to a new motor, electrical, computer, interior, differentials, transfer case, transmission issue. Total repair estimate of $19000.
I am in Va and now being told that my jeep is totaled and worth $29000. Its 3 months old and has 6000 miles on it. Redrock 4 door, duel top Auto with Nav system. What the ???? Has any one seen or heard anything about something going wrong that would keep the JK from starting if it got wet? Or does any one have a suggestion on what to do next. This is my 8th Jeep in 20 years; I run a business with 40 other Chrysler products and my wife drives a charger herself. You can say I was very loyal to brand. This is my toy something to go fishing and a maybe take it off road once and awhile. I never had this stuff happen. I going to post the pictures every where I can as the advertisement on TV shows them getting wet and still moving, maybe they are being driven by professionals on a closed track. Sounds to me like false advertisement. Maybe I go look at a Hummer.

I have the exact same Jeep. Sorry to hear that it's finished after getting a little bit wet. That seems really strange as I've seen plenty of JKs get in a couple of feet of water no problem. Also, ouch on the value they gave you for it. 3 months and a 6K drop in value! (I suppose you can't count the hard top in the payout, so more like a 4K drop, but whatever). Good luck with this.
Also, If you think that a rebadged, hugely overpriced Tahoe or Colorado with a ton more weight and IFS is going to do it for you, then go check out hummers.

I didn't say I wanted to but I know Gm wants my business and has offered me a preferred discount as I have a fleet of vehicles that are replaced on a rolling 4 year cycle. I have been a loyal Chrysler/ Dodge customer for over 20 years both professionally and personal as I have used their vehicles through the growth of my business. My 3 sons and their families, my wife and 1 and my business now account for 25 vehicles on the road. I know I'm not a large customer but I do represent a customer base and deserve to be treated fairly by any service department in the country. My vehicle never got wet on the inside the motor never ran when it was wet. Yes I took it out a month earlier and played in water with no issue. This time it was parked. For a dealer to refuse repairs and claim that it is an insurance issue is wrong. If I had lied about where the vehicle was it would have been serviced under warranty or if I had a stalling issue or some other issue that was documented then they would be dealing with a lemon law. But since my JK was in good running order when it was parked and didn't run when it got wet then it’s an insurance issue and the dealer has all the power. Yes you can say I'm pissed. How would any one act if they parked their vehicle in the drive way decided to get the wheels wet and the vehicle didn't start after wards and the dealer saying that it was an insurance issue. If my Jeep would had started when the Wheels got wet I would have pulled out of the water and that would had been that. I was not until it would not start that the tide came in while I was waiting for the tow truck. You can see that in the pictures. Clouds don’t move in that quick. With a gm vehicle I would have star program so that help could be reached quicker. Something Chrysler doesn’t offer. I have been in sales all my life and the sale doesn’t stop after the signature but continues through any needed service. For the dealer to tell the appraiser that the motor got wet locking it up is bull. But give a 25 year punk the power an out of state visitor and we are all screwed. Don’t mean to carry on just venting. Check out all the other Jeep Forums and I will post my story so that all can read. Maybe one day you will benefit by my story as you will have a record of this happening to someone else.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I had my on the beach too... in Galveston, TX. I ran it up and down the beach... in the water... stopped and started many many times along the way, never had an issue.
Ohh and BTW, could you post those pictures a little smaller???

dude
water can get in the starter, and thats all she wrote
i dont think blaming jeep for something that you did is fair, you shouldnt have your jeep in the ocean, period, just be glad that your insurance is covering it, because if an insurance agent reads this and tracks it back to you they wouldnt cover it
they gave you good money on a used jeep with 6k on it, move on and buy another one
i dont see what the problem is???

Seems more like a problem between you and your insurance company, not really a warranty problem. Your Jeep sinking in the ocean isn't really covered by the warranty. And if the repairs are enough to total your Jeep they did you a favor sending you to your insurance, rather than sending you a rather hefty bill.
and don't tell us to look at the clouds in those pictures, the ocean is just a meer drop, and your Jeep looks like a tiny red ant. You need to repost more than the thumbnails.
good luck.
