3 months old and totaled
Add me to the confused list.
I don't think we are hearing the entire story. It sounds to me like water got a little deeper than is being admitted. It just sounds fishy....pun intended.

To all sorry about the pictures, They were taken by a cell phone and then e-mailed back to me. As for why the JK was in the water we were fishing and had just hooked a cobia that ran the shore line. When all was said and done I went to move the Jeep as the tide was coming in. Yes it should had been parked higher on the sand but when we started to fish it was at least 20 feet from the water line. I have also ran mine in the water before and the JK should had started, i I would had driven it out. I was looking for more of a tech tip as to maybe a fusable link or starter circuit fuse. As I was going to the dealer to drive it out to save on the daily lot fee. Totaled or not, not the real issue it was the fact that a service writer started the issue with water damage. Fighting with the insurance over a few dollars is not what I wanted to do. My camper was parked in storage lot and allowed the others with me about 6 hours of ribbing time as I had bragged for the last 60 days about what my Ruby could do. $29k for a $35k vehicle with 6000 mile is bull if it is something as simple as a fuse.
More to the point. If there had been a history of stalling or failing to start then it would had been a lemon law canidate and not an insurance claim. The vehicle never started after the tide hit the tires. I wasn't until the tide came in that the sand got soft, the vehicle shifted and the oil pan got wet. If I can get 32 plus storage fee on the camper, rental fee for the 2nd vehicle and the $1000 Dm required to alter the tow package to cover anything over 2000 lbs I will be ok. But to have a service writer and service tech to say that the vehilce was damaged do to being in water just not fair. I was tring to tell them that it was because the vehicle didn't start that it was in the water. Something of the chicken and egg thing I guess.
Ok I not bitter any longer and got over it. Its just another Jeep that I can but in my resume and start over. I will buy another 4 door as it was every thing I was looking for in a MALL CRAWLER or not, I'll just make sure to take it to the dealer with any hiccup. I will be the customer from hell.
So the real question. Does any one know of a weak point in the electrical system that would cause the JK not to start and what can be done to correct it? This may be a point that all JK owners need to look at since it is a new model.

I'm going to wait for the 08 as there may be a trolling motor and fish finder option with crow nest navagation system.
Looks like DM just renewed my faith in them. I was reading in another thread that DM has just started to offer lifetime powertrain warranty of Jeeps. Looks like the 25 year old prefessional knew what he was talking about all along. It just to to bad that my JK was total and the insurance company has to take the blunt of it all. I will set up the service department on my christmas gift list. What a good company and service department to deal with. Thank you. I start looking for my New JK tomorrow, what a way to start off a work week
Not sure how to post a link to the tread but here is the info of where it is. "JK-Forum.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Bulletin Board > Jeep JK Wrangler > Stock JK Tech Lifetime Powertrain Warranty on all Jeeps! "

Uhhhhh. I write estimates for a living and I deal with this every day, and I have been for the last 15 years. I'm baffled by this whole thread! Maybe it's just my a.d.d and I didn't read it thoroughly. I'm baffled
Things don't add up.
1. why was it in the ocean?
2. they totaled it why?
3. why the low settlement? You're gettin screwed!
4. and why the thumbnail pictures?
Can you post a copy of the estimate? As soon as I Get a copy
I went back and read it again. At first it sounds like a little bit of water but you state the "INTERIOR". If interior needs to be replaced you sir were beyond the 30" of water fording allowed by Jeep.
Does not add up!!!!!

1) Not in, near!!!, The Jeep didn't start then it was in
2)It was towed to the dealer who looked at it and said the motor got wet do to sand in the emgine compartment
3) Not sure may have been priced out as a 2 dr, but holding out for 32k
4)Camera phone and pictures emailed to me by a fishing buddy, I don't know how to enlarge
and The interior never got wet Sand was on the carpet and the seat side had water stains from a earlier trip that the inside did get wet. Its all good with the new life time, I just wait for the check and get another one. I found a black ruby and will start the paper work today hopefully if not the 08's will be out shortly.
I figured I would just throw this in here. TEV and I went wheeling at Springcreek offroad. In the middle there is a creek that you can cross. TEV has 35's and the entrance and exit has a dip that made his tires disappear. I have just 33's I crossed the creek. Talk about a heart pounding experience. It was so crazy to feel the water slapping the underside of the tub. I could feel the slapping with my feet. Seeing the hood go underwater in the entance to the creek was very scary. Im glad I had the doors on.
I know our Jeeps can handle a little water. Iv driven many a thousands of happy miles since playing in the creek. The only thing I can see being harsh would be the salt water. O BTW I just have a X with TEV's old wheels nothing special.
Gap insurance is our friend.

FWIW
I work for an insurance company. My company in particular will total a veh if salt water enters the cabin and if fresh water reaches the dash regardless of the cost to repair or value of the vehicle.
Like a previous poster stated, we are married to the vehicles we repair. If a veh is submerged in fresh water, then removed the clean up is not that bad. If it sits for a while, it's a different story. Salt water is notorious for causing damage that shows up after time. Salt = totalloss almost 100% of the time.
As for the hit on value, exercise your appraisal clause. Your insurance policy is a contract. There is always a way to dispute. (you will pay for an appraisal) If your appraiser and your insurance company do not agree, you can share the cost of a third appraiser. He/she will act as an arbitrator. It may be worth the $500 you come out of pocket that could net you a couple thousand.
Or...
In ABQ, NM I've seen dealers mark up Unlimiteds $3k and Rubicons up to $5k. Have 2 or 3 dealers write you a quick letter stating that your local market commands a premium on the Wrangler.
