Thumbs down 4 Wheel Drive Cable Breaks

Has any one had thier 4 wheel drive cable break. When you look under the Jeep a rod comes out of the transfer case and a cable from the 4x4 shifter comes down and connects to the rod with a plastic clip. I was out climbing a hills and going through flooded roads and then it would not shift into 4x4?? The plastic clip boke off and now you have to climb under the Jeep to shift to 4x4.

Only happened to about 10,000 JK owners. I changed the style before mine broke however.

I had mine replaced today . dealership did it, covered under lifetime warranty. Mine broke on a muddy road driving around looking for camping spots. had to climb under it in the mud to shift it into 4X4.

Thats kinda what I wanted to avoid. Warranty is wonderful, but a stupid break like that can be a real pain in the ass!

So far the cotter key is working flawless. After about 100 shifts I've checked on it, not a budge on the setup

In January 2008, I went to the car wash, and it was minus 35 outside.
THe cable has frozen; impossible to have 4X4 for several days
