Default 4x4 gear cable

I was in the Desert yesterday with some friend for a nice BBQ, we decided to try some dunes before.

I went up a dune, and then we decided to try that again in a normal high gear to see how the jeep would handle that.

I pulled the lever towards 4x4 high and clang the cable came off and the gear jumped into neutral rendiring the car is a heavy piece of........

We towed it out of the sand towards the road and called a flatbed to take it the Jeaap dealer in Abu Dhabi. There fixed in the warranty so no issues there.

My question is, could I have done something myself in the desert? a quick fix or something like that?

I ran across another post on here where the same thing happened. Maybe someone will remember it. I think you can temp most anything with some cable(zip) ties.

if the cable popped off on the transfer case side that would be an easy fix to crawl under and reach up to snap it back on. Pulling the console for the other end is a little more involved.

I think I would have crawled my narrow ass under the JEEP and put the dang thing in 4x4 by hand.

I don't have any recommendations about how to do a trail fix on this, but I know that the problem arises when you attempt to shift the transfer case when the jeep is not moving. If you shift the TC while the jeep is slightly in motion, you should have no problems.

Once they snap it back on correctly you probably will not have any more problems. Take a flashlight and look up on the drivers side of the transmission and transfer case. You can see where the cable attaches to the lever to change transfer case mode.

It has a picture of a temporary field repair.
