Default 4x4 HELP !!!!

I went to engage my 4x4, it's was performed as I normally do, however it did not engage, and the 4x4 shifter knob just moves freely, no resistance, and does not go in gear.,.. ..
Any ideas???
Thanks,

Sounds like the shifter linkage popped off or broke.

Yup, sounds like the little C-clip broke off.

Easy fix, but awkward to reach!

I had the same issue on January 2009: C-clip broke because of ice (was minus 30 deg)
