Default 60k service

So the dealer wants to charge me $350. Is this a rip off or what? First Jeep, never done this kinda servicing before.

uhh my 60k service would include diffs and motor oil. Tranny fluid and Transfercase fluid. i would see what they intend on doing for your "60k service" if they are just doing front/rear Diff and motor oil i would do it myself.

Cost break down:

Fluids $50.00

Labor $300.00

Getting raped, free of charge for valued customers.

If I'm not mistaken (I'm outside of the US so our service schedules here may be different to you guys) the expensive platinum-tipped sparkplugs need to be replaced at around the 60K mark, along with all the fluids (motor oil, both diffs & T/case) so that price is about right at the inflated dealer-service prices.

Just had a 4 wheel drive service and transmission service on my Toyota Sequoia (basically changing all fluids, nothing else). $700!!! I love doing my own service on the JK, but the won't touch the Toyota as you need a PhD first.

That is ridiculous man, I would never let the dealer touch my Jeep. I was trying to service my Transmission which requires you to basically make your own tool and I asked the dealer how they do it. They told me they normally just dump in some new fluid and overflow it for a bit because draining it is such a pain and they don't have the tool to do it. Forget what size but I just took an angle grinder to a Allen socket bit and made my own. Serviced that for prize of fluids and the socket bit, and then did the diffs for basically the price of fluids alone. Most of those tools required are tools you will have just laying around. As far as oil...well that is self explanatory and easy enough. Don't have an exact price but for the time you would wait for them to "service" your Jeep you could have done it yourself and for a fraction of the cost.

Find the service schedule in your owner's manual and do the work yourself. The only things extra that they will do would involve you spending more money--maybe a free inspection of this or that so they can find something broken to charge you to repair. If you off-road, there isn't anything on the preventative maintenance tables that you should not be intimately familiar with.

Just so some know, for the 60k auto tranny service they don't change the tranny filter. They just unhook the lines and crank the engine and let the stock pump work all the old fluid out replacing with new. They reccommend changing the filter at 120,000m. Seemed odd to me, since I do believe the manual says change the filter. I didn't want them screwing with the auto pan anyway, I'm gonna change the filter at 100,000m myself and out a drain plug in the pan.

at 60k i personaly change all fluids/filters
diff's 15k
Transfercase fluid 30k
Transmission fluid 30k
Brake fluid 30k
power steering fluid 30k
coolant 60k(or 3 years)
motor oil 3-4k(depending on highway miles)

i change these if they need it or not so i keep a good habbit. as you can tell 30K and 60k 90k... etc are pricey services but not going to the dealer makes it easy on the pocket.

i plan on changing spark plugs and wires at 60k also.

sometimes i like to play really hard and i want to do all i can to prevent service related damage.
