6speed vs 4speed reliability?
I am shopping for a 4door rubi and love the auto for offroading but like the stick because I like shifting gears. It seems that, after a little research here, neither of the available trans are worth a darn.
the auto gets stuck in gear, shutters on shifts, will not down shift until people behind you are riding your butt and honking, and it over heats frequently causing the dreaded ding.
the stick has throw out bearing problems, lound clunks and clanks on clutch engagment, and somehow get the same mpg in 6th gear that the same jeep will get in 4th for the auto.
this seems like a lose lose choice. any ideas? please clarify.
the way I see it, if the auto breaks they'll fix it. If the stick breaks they can say its due to abusive driving habits and hose you.

u might have a point there. however i think the majority have had good service. one guy did a poll about auto trannys. Chrysler knows they have problems with those. I like a stick shift personally but I have a bad clutch leg so auto it is for me.
I was in a similar spot as you and I am so glad I went with the stick. Even on trails, I like having the stick. It adds more challenge, and a greater sense of accomplishment when you finish the trail.
My 6 speed is great! I don't use the 6th gear much, but it is there when I need it. I agree with the others, the manual makes driving that much more of a challenge/reward in the end. No Problems yet to speak of.
I take the 6 spd over the auto anyday.....have 56,000kms on mine and no problems thus far.....I have driven both and our JK's are no power houses,
but at least in the 6 spd, you can control that limited power easier.... plus I think it is more fun to play with the gears....Both auto and 6spd have their plus/minus' for offroading....I think the 6spd out performs the auto for the most part.
My brother has the same JK as mine, but in an auto, and is already complaining about how much power he lost when installed the lift and tires
