ABS light- c1043 c1027 u140b and rear axle play

ABS light- c1043 c1027 u140b and rear axle play
My inspection is due soon and I just started getting the ABS light as above with p0501- limp mode.
I changed the sensors and harnesses and there was no change.
There is some in-out play in the left rear wheel about 1/8" (there is no up and down play)
The right rear wheel is tight.
I was reading that some play is normal. Would that amount of in-out play cause the light?
I really don't want to change out the axle bearings if that will not fix this issue.
