Default AC Condenser

Apparently my AC condenser has a puncture hole from road debris. How much should I be looking to pay to replace including labor. The dealership said $750 to $800 and I that seems awfully high (even for the dealer!).

Thx!

I just paid 779 2 wks ago, the part lists for 482, moparpartsamerica has it for 344. the dealer that did mine originally wanted 912, I asked how much for the part, they were charging me the list price of it, I got them to lower it to the price of it on their own website. You could try asking how much they are charging for the part and seeign what they sell for on their site.

If they do the job correctly the labor would include making sure no refrigerant remains. R&R of the coil. Changing the drier, pressurize and leak check, evacuation of the system then recharging to specs and adding the appropiate amt of oil. Then checkout of the operation.

Mat'l; drier, refrigerant, oil, condenser coil and possible recovery tank charges.

All told price seems like it is fair if it includes all the above.

Check with your insurance company. If something has been thrown against your condenser in traffic that is something you cannot control. and it would be covered as a comprehensive loss. If you struck something and punctured it, that would be a collision loss. A comp claim by itself won't raise your rates. A collision claim might, if it exceeds the claim baseline, if not it won't affect your rates. Remember you can have the condenser replaced at a a/c repair shop, probably for less money. Most of the aftermarket condensers look exactly like the OEM now. We use them all the time, haven't had any issues....
