Default All over the road

I have an 07 2door 6 speed. Sence I got the Jeep I have noticed that it seems to be a little sloppy with its steering. Over the past week me and the wife went out and we were on the highway and every little bump in the road seemed to toss me around. Still not knowing alot about my Jeep I was thinking maybe a steering stabilizer woud help. i called David at Northridge and talked to him about it and he said that a steering stabilizer would not help anything without a lift. So before I call my dealer what might I be looking for that is the root of my problem?

for me it has been balljoints and tie rod. you can check them in your drive way.

Tie rod lay under and have your wife move the steering wheel back and forth.

balljoints jack one wheel up put something under tire as a pry bar and lift up and down looking for play in balljoints. repeat other side.

i had my balljoints replaced 4 times and tie rod once

check all your steering components bushings. youd be surprised what worn bushings can do.

You tires being cupped can do this also. Make sure they are balanced and you rotate them every 6K max.

could also be your steering box. While under the jeep have someone rock the steering back and forth while you look up at the sector shaft where it meets the pitman arm and look for sideways play

I doubt it would be ball joints or a worn steering box.

The Saginaw style steering box has been used in vintage racing corvettes since the early 1960's. If your jeep has only 6k miles, you don't have a lift, it doesn't sound like you're too terribly hard on your rig... I doubt it would be the box or ball joints.

But... I think the tires could be a culprit.

Tires: Get them balanced & rotated! Also, if that doesn't do it, you could just have a blown steering stabilizer too.
Lastly, even tho it is a solid axle vehicle, taking it in to get an alignment done wouldn't be a bed idea either.

Perhaps you or the girly bonked into a curb hard?

oh... backroadman... serious? How in the world could you have gone thru 4 sets of ball joints? Are you taking your jeep autocrossing or on AMA racetracks???

I have a little over 13K miles. I have had it offroad once. When I got the jeep it had aftermarket rims and tires The tires are oversized 285 75 16 toyo A/T. I am not 100% sure on the size. Sence I have had the jeep i have not had anything dont to it other then oil.
