Default Am i going crazy or is my engine burning oil?

Just changed my oil in my 08 Unlimited and confirmed for the second time that I had no more than 3-4 quarts of dirty oil when I naturally put in 6 qts. Is this normal or do I need to take it in? And I've checked for leaks and there isn't any...

Any help is much appreciated...thanks!

If you have a warranty left take it in to do a consumption test.

I had no warranty and Chrysler didn't care, so I had to put a new engine in myself.

I would look at a new pcv and also maybe a thicker oil if Chrysler isn't any help. Search this problem and see what others are doing.

Not normal!

Hope you have warranty...you need to do a oil consumption test to prove your case...pain in the put but its the first step to having them fix what is THEIR problem,

On this forum...search oil sucking 3.8. Its a long list of info, you are not alone.

Be sure to keep a close eye on your level...dont let the sump go dry.

Best of luck!

I have an 08 too with the same problem... I used 2 cans of seafoam .. One in the gas tank... The other in the intake manifold.... I then switched to synthetic oil... Pentosin brand... And haven't had a problem since ...

how many miles and months between changes? what brand oil and what weight? How's your gas mileage been?

That's good advice to start by changing out the PCV valve. Don't bother with inspecting it, just change it. It's cheap like $10.

I change my oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles... Which ever comes first...yes even with the synthetic ... I use the brand called pentosin 5w40.... After the deadpan treatments my gas mile improved with an overall better throttle response as well

Forgive my ignorance but what is the PCV valve? And isn't this considered a powertrain issue so the lifetime warranty is in effect? In any case, I have 75000 miles (yes 75000 miles), I change the oil probably every month/month and a half using 5W-30 part-synthetic.

Crazy how this is something a lot of people experience...seems like I shouldn't have to worry about this. Or is my car engine just getting old? Hahaha... Probably gonna call the dealership tomorrow...

Ive been on a consumption test for over a month now, but since my jeep is burning less than 1 qt every 1000 miles chrysler considers this "normal" usage.. I took it in one time to change my oil at 4,000 mile and there was no reading on the dipstick. But the service manager told me I have to check it.. I have one doubt.. The first consumption test I did, they check my oil but didn't top it off.. This time around the tech said they were going to top it off every time they check it.... So I'm thinking what way is the correct way to do the consumption test???.. Idk!
All I know is my jeep IS burning oil but NOT ENOUGH.. The new tech that's doing it now is trying to make it seem like its a normal thing.. I hate that!!

The PCV is a wear item. I agree that it should be replaced. 5W 30 is good to use. If you're using less than 1qt. per 1,000 miles Chrysler isn't going to do anything. According to them, that's "normal" even though it's nonsense. But, that's what it is. Change the PCV and monitor your consumption. If it's never been changed that could be your problem.
