Anyone have a strange noise when starting there jeep
#13
Mine made the flywheel grinding noise a few times until my stupid ass figured out that the Jeep will start itself. All you are supposed to do is turn the key to the start position and QUICKLY release it. It will engage the starter all by itself until the Jeep starts. If you try to hold it in the start position like a conventional vehicle, you may get the grinding noise. I think this is only true on the automatic.

I thought it was an exhaust vibration due to the engine rev'ing higher than normal.

I hear the same griding noise when I start the jeep after being parked for more than a day. I was thinking that it could be the oil level... The oil level appears to be normal.

I brought it into the dealer and they called me backa few hours later and said the starter was going bad. So they replace it. Now the trucks starts up real nice again

The dealer could not get my Jeep to make the noise during the 5 day period when they had it.....so, no noise, no fix!
I guess I'll have to break down before my dealer will fix mine.
Has anyone else had a starter replaced on their JK?

mine has made "d'noise" about 5 times in the year that I have had it. It happens so fat I kinda wonder if i really heard a noise or imagined it.
I think it may be something turning on like the ac compressor or something rather than the starter itself. It is so infrequent that I don't think it is the starter, unless there is a bad spot on the flywheel that only happens to be in the right place at the right time once in a blue moon....
naw, I thinks it is an electronic compnoent getting weird.
