Default Anyone regeared their stock jk without adding larger tires

So I recently took the fam back home to visit for Xmas, 1550 one way to Mo going there was great because I had a tail wind the whole way coming back is a whole nother story...head wind, long hills and the back of the jeep loaded down!!! For probably 3/4 of the way back I had to keep the rpms around 3k to 4k just to maintain 65 mph even on flat stretches!!!! I have 373s with the max tow package unless the factory F$&@'d up.

I have not regeared but she is a bit under powered with the 373's. Wish I had 410 from the factory. Thinking I'll go to 456 when/if I ever change, but I'd be worried to do it with stock tire size. More power but you might be cutting your top end too much.

When did Jeeps have fuel economy?? I actually get better MPG in my 600 hp corvette than I do in my stock Jeep.

With my Airaid intake and MBRP exhaust I get about 24mpg on the highway. Averaged close to 26 on a 10 day drive with 500lbs of gear. That's with mountains and city driving. I was moving half way across the country and camped/went site seeing the entire way.

My 07 x had stock 4.10 gears with stock tires and auto trany and it was actually a very drivable car. It didn't struggle going up hills and I always got 19 mpg here in the NE.

Now I have a 2010 with auto and 3.73 and it sucks. I have 265/70/17 tires which are a little heavier but not much. The thing can't keep speed on the highway to save its life. I get 17 mpg. I can't wait to regear or get a 2012

I say regear regear regear

24 mpg!?! in the mts.!?! you must have the mr. fusion powered model with the flux capacitor. i barely scratch 16 on nice flat North Dakota interstates on a calm day. now granted, i tend to drive the speed limit which is 75, but still don't think i'd even come close to that even if i drove 60 mph.

but i do agree with the OP that the auto with 3.73s out of the box isn't quite adequate and i'm actually contemplating regearing to 5.13s potentially before moving up to 35's. we'll just see how the cookie crumbles on the build list. the order on that darn thing changes at least every other day.

Mine came out of the factory with 4.10 gears and they have worked great for me so far.
