Default At 30K

I can't believe at 30K. I just flushed mine out at the Transmission cooler. This is what happens when watching to many YouTube video's

I just hooked up some 5/16 lines (bottom's out, top intake):

Grapped 10 quarts of ATF+4 and put it all in the top bucket, then let the old fluid pump into the bottom.

I purchased 14 Quarts and used them all. I ran the jeep until I seen new fluid coming out the bottom line.

PS: I stopped the engine a few times, because the pump wasn't taking in the fluid fast enough. The YouTube video Got any more idea's to make this more simpler?

that depends on which "everyone" you ask. (not trying to be a smartass)

I'll bet most owners will never do it. Some will do pan-drop partial changes on a rotation of say 15, 30, or 60k miles. And a few intrepid souls will try complete drain and fills or rig up a (no-pressure) flushing rig like above. A pressurized flush is a bad idea, period.

The manual says 60k or 60 months IF you frequently tow, etc. *

Heat is the enemy of ATF. And these transmissions are well known to overheat.

I put an aux cooler on my '08 and have monitored the trans temp since early on. Because I rarely ever see trans temps get as high as 160 with the cooler, I will likely wait until I hit 60k to change the filter, then do pan-drop partial fills every 15-20k with another new filter every 60. (I'll be welding on a drain bung to a new pan for the first drop--> a la Ronjenx)

* from the 08 manual:
"Change the automatic transmission fluid & main
sump filter if using your vehicle for any of the following:
police, taxi, fleet or frequent trailer towing
."

Do you tow? wheel slow in the desert? sit in ridiculous traffic? have an aux cooler and/or temp gauge? ever get the hotoil message?

any/all maintenance schedule should reflect how the rig is actually used (IMHO).

I suggest a temp gauge and aux cooler to anyone with the 42RLE.

That exhaust pipe is why I don't fix cars for a living. Such a stupid design. Those last bolts make this job a nightmare and I have all the good tools. I expect leaking in that area until I remove the exhaust and torque them properly.

I only have 20K on my 07, but I noticed there is a leak around the pan. I tried tightening the bolts but they seem tight. I'm moving to a new rental so I just might have to take it somewhere to have the gasket replaced, and might as well just service it.

Here is how I dealt with the rear bolts on the trans pan. It makes it so there is no need to have a straight-on shot at the bolts.

This picture shows how to make the next fluid/filter change much less messy.
