Default Backup Light

I searched on this topic but hadn't seen anything more current than 2011, so here goes. The reverse light in the OEM tail light is laughable when you really need to light up the space behind you. Has anyone found a bulb replacement that is brighter than the standard 3057/3157 incandescent? I don't want to have to install a $300 lighting system just to do the job the OEM bulb should do in the first place. And I don't want to cook the plastic light housing with an unsafe bulb either.

Thanks in advance!

Walmart driving lights into the housings. Cost about 20 bucks I think.

I popped in a set of Amazon.com: 2Pcs Aaron High Power White 80W 3157 XB-D Cree LED Light Bulbs Super Bright for Brake Backup Tail Reverse Turn Signal Lights: Automotive bulb replacements, they are brighter then the stock headlights. I also swapped my headlight bulbs out with an $80 HiD kit. I can now see at night, in drive and reverse.

Which hid kit did you use? I'm looking to upgrade my headlights in the fall but really don't want to drop 500 bucks on them.

Amazon.com: HID Xenon Headlight Conversion Kit by Kensun, H13 Dual-Beam Bi-Xenon, 6000K: Automotive with Amazon.com: HID Kit Computer Warning Canceller & Anti Flicker (1 Pair) - (Original Kensun Brand): Automotive, which when bought together only cost $1 more then the bulb kit. they work, they use the stock housings, they are a pain in the balls to install because of the tight space under the hood and having to run wires between them, mounting the capacitors, and running the live wire to the battery, I half assed it at best with zip ties but my mechanically inclined neighbor approved of it being the only way it was going to fit without taking off engine components that were in the way to run wires differently. zip ties, the new duct tape...... If I had seen the $150 led bulb replacements and knew about the kits install hassles, I would have splurged on them instead because they are plug and play with no new shit to run.

Mountain Man, now we are talking! These bulbs are a direct plug in to the stock setup? Exactly what I'm looking for! How long have you had them in use?
