Hi! My wife and I recently purchased our second Jeep. A 2007 Wrangler X. The engine has 24k miles on the clock. We noticed a intermittent internal engine noise when idling or under low acceleration. The noise almost sounds as if something is loose.

The dealership thinks that a bearing is on its way out and will require the Jeep for 3 days. Is this somewhat of a common issue? Could this possibly be due to the horizontal oil filter issue? Thanks for the input, I love this board so far!

No its not the oil filter. That will cause a clatter on start up for a sec if the anti drain back valve is not functioning properly.

Mine only clattered on start up, changed to a motorcraft filter FL400S no more clatter. don't know if the intermittent thing is the same

Yeah, I only heard the clatter for a second at start-up, if occuring beyond that then it's likely something else.

Well, it looks like its the water pump and not a engine bearing. This is a sigh of relief of my part.

Thats good it only the WP.. I noticed mine at 16,000 miles a little rust trail under it. I'm not using anymore fluid, so perhaps it has stopped. Something i will keep my eye on...

my engine kinda EXPLODES on the inside...... wait... that's just internal combustion.

I replaced the water pump on my Tundra when I put in a new timing belt. Man what a job that was. If you had to replace just pump, you'd be taking the timimg belt off anyway.

Does the water pump on the Wrangler run off the timing belt or is it an easier fix?
