It is a light. Indicator. If someone or something is on the passenger seat and weighs less than 60 lbs (estimating) the Jeep automatically disables the passenger airbag. This is primarily on the 2-Doors. If you have a 4-Door "the safest place for a child and child restraint seat is the back seat." With a 2-Door it isn't practical to use the back seat so the factory makes the passenger air bag automatic.

Most vehicles are like that now. Throw a latop backpack or a tool bag on the seat and see what happens. Shut it off move the object off of the seat and start up again.

There IS a circuit board running across the back of that entire panel. No matter how many switches you have installed there is a circuit board all the way across the blank spaces.

Search the Electrical section back through January. Someone did install a switch in a blank location but he had to be VERY careful. The circuit board is the CANBus interface node for that panel. If you scratch, crack, nick or snap that board...you're in a lot of trouble. It has been done but be VERY careful.

Yep, but not sure what good it's for (yet).
Sorry for the confussion. Whenever I crank my JK that area (it's not an operable switch) lights up and says passenger airbag off. I have an 07'; I thought all JK's had that light?

why would you be confused? your jeep does not have anything in that spot

Was confused by some of the other's explanation on what it actually is and how it functions (not on mine, but on others).

From what I understand now is that I have passenger airbag that automatically turns off based on weight in passenger seat, but I have no light indicating that it is off. So now I'm left with a useless blank.
