Default Bolt Rust

Hey everyone,

I noticed that there is some faint rust build-up in the indented ring part around my windshield bolt heads. I am thinking about removiing the bolts (not all at once since I don't want my windshield to fall forward) and then painting the bolts in some good black rust preventative paint. Any suggestions on paint????

I think I'll also clean up the indentations and then use the touch up paint (brush applicator) that I have. Perhaps finish it off with some Nano wax?

I plan on keeping my Jk for a while and I don't want it looking all rusty like damn near every CJ and TJ I see that is more than 3 years old.

Your windshield will not fall forward if you remove the bolts and plates off both sides at the same time. If only it were that easy to drop it. The design is dumb. When I pulled the plates off mine to drop the windscreen I found the paint on the backside was very thin and also there was a heavy build up of dirt and crap under those plates that seemed to be wearing into the good paint. I cleaned mine and waxed good before putting it all back together.

I see the bolts and plastic washers, but what are you referring to when you say "plates?"

gotcha. Didn't even know those came off! Makes sense since I see chrome ones on TJs and older wranglers.

On the older Jeeps, that is where the windscreen hinge was on each side. On the JK's the hinge was moved to the middle (because they curved the window) and now they are just support/structural plates.

I am having problems with the paint inside the indent behind the screw chipping and rusting and I have not took these screws out.
