Default Brake Fluid has algae

I was at the dealership for my free 6 month detailing and they brought out this test kit and checked all of my fluids. Not the levels the actual fluid.

Are you ready..... He then looks at me and says the brake fluid shows some algae growing in it and we should change that out for $150.

He had a straight face even....

I have heard of some dumb dealers, but that guy was straight out trying to rob you......I would have honestly called the cops on that dealership and filed charges of fraud against them.

I have never heard of nor seen algae in brake fluid, and I've been working on my vehicles since 1968.
However, a Google Search revealed the topic appears to be valid. Brake fluid should be changed every two years or so anyway.

proper way to change out fluid
pass. rear, open bleeder valve attach hose run hose to a glass bottle (cough beer bottle cough) allow it to drain into bottle when bottle is full move on to next one
driver rear, pass front driver front same process.

the key to doing this correctly is to constantly check and refill the fluid level as it drains through, if you miss this you may screw something up (ABS) or you will have to start all over and do a real bleed down.

(real bleed down 2 people required, one with wrench on bleeder to open and close, conversation to the person sitting in driver seat operating brake pedal
----pump it up --from wrencher to operator (brake operator pumps brake pedal 5 to 10 times, with jeep off, and presses hard.
---hold it ---from wrencher to operator(brake operator stops pumping and pushes pedal to floor and hold it there and doesn't release, wrencher opens bleeder, fluid shoots all over cough into bottle)
---to the floor-----from operator to wrencher (once the operators pedal hit the floor he says this and the wrencher closes the bleeder)
then repeat till clean fluid in going into bottle every 5 "pump it ups" check reservoir level.
do not leave cap off, do not forget to refill.
all commands should be read back to the person who said it. communication is key

or buy a brake bleeder kit 10$ to 120$

second hint get a turkey bAster before starting this slow process, suck out the old stuff and put in new before opening any bleeder.
easy job for an afternoon only cost you brake fluid
is that worth 150$US? to cure your algae problem.
