Does anyone know if there is an after market kit to upgrade the brakes on the JKU? I want better stopping power when towing without having to get a trailer brake system.

I have no idea how good it is but I'm looking into doing something like this too. the brakes on my two door are awful.

 

really interested to hear how much better the teraflex are than stock. on my lifted fourdoor with 35's the brakes suuuucccckkk

 

I just installed Power Slot rotors with Hawk LTS pads on my Jeep. Not too much difference, but better than stock. Total cost was under $500.

 

My problem with all "big brake" upgrade kits is in a few years if the company goes under or stops making the kit where do you buy the pads? or if you want to run a different pad then they offer.

 

The teraflex use a generic pad and rotor I think, thought they said from a Chevy or dodge. Said you can get the parts at any parts place.

 

Be interested to know how much bigger the Teraflex calipers/pads/rotors are then stock, in the picture the pads do not look much bigger, and why only a front and not both front/rear. I know the front takes most of the breaking action but I think a good upgrade would include both axels. I have an appointment with the dealer next week and will be asking about brake upgrades and see what they have to say.

 

One of the magazines recently did a write up of this kit, they loved it. Stopping distance from 60-0 went from 144ft to 106 or thereabouts. I can look and see if I can find it again.

OP you're asking about a trailer brake system? Is this just when your towing or something?

Edit: The magazine is "4x4 Garage Presents Wrangler JK". Found it at Barnes & Noble. It's fall 2011 so you can probably find it locally.

Stopping 60-0 went from 125ft to 108 ft, on 35" tires. The kit rotors are 13.3" (stock is 11.9"), The calipers are larger with larger pistons (doesn't say by how much), and more aggressive pads.

 

Wow too rich for my blood. Would be nice to figure out what parts they are. Would be cheaper.

 

Well you could have engineered the kit yourself first and R&D it and then give away the source list so everyone else can benny from your time.

650+ bucks for a set of calipers , pads and rotors that upgrade installation "requires no cutting, welding or adapter bracketry" may be just right for the do it at home in your driveway on the weekend guy. especially being it seems to be a decent set of components that work.
