Going to hook my Brother-in-law up with some new brake pads in a couple weeks. He has a 2013 and sounded like the dealership in DC was trying to take him for a ride. Anyone recently got a good deal (Internet or Auto Parts) possibly looking to maybe replace pads and rotors depending on how much cash he has. He is just replacing stock. I realize Hawk pads run around $80, but he may need new rear rotors. He leased the Jeep for first 3 years and now has bought it...thinking he has around 50K, which I'm surprised the rears have lasted this long.

 

I have hawk pads. I hate them. They stop great. They produce an insane amount of dust compared to oem pads. My rears oem lasted to 70k. I did fronts at same time, but I bet I could have safely gotten another 20k out of them. For my next brake pads, I may just go to the dealer and get oem ones. The hawk pads give dust levels in 2 weeks that the oem pads produced in 2 years.

 

My factory rear pads were shot around 50k miles. I threw some Ake Bono ultra-premium ceramic pads in the rear (~$53) and have been happy so far. Fronts looked like they had barely worn yet.

 

For the rear I like the Wagner OEX pads but after running those, Hawks, and stock- I'd go with stock or the OEX pads. The Hawks produce an unreal amount of dust. I've got the Hawks up front right now.

For rotors- same thing, I'd go stock. I've got Centrics in the rear and they're ehh. I did Raybestos grooved rotors up front and they grab.....but I wouldn't hesitate to go back to stock.

I have Hawk pad and they do produce a lot of dust but they stop great with my 13in rotors.
I think I'm going to try yellow stuff next time around.

 

I installed Hawk pads back in May. Had Powerstop rotors & pads until my pads wore and I replaced them with Hawk. I wished I had gotten another set of Powerstop pads for the same reason you dislike Hawk... the INSANE amount of brake dust is ridiculous. I swore it made my black wheels look red. Took a lot of degreaser to get that $hit off.

As for a recommendation?... I'd give the guys @ Powerstop an opportunity. I never had problems with them and have been running their cross-drilled/slotted rotors & pads for nearly 3 years.

 

I do my own pads and rotors and I've been on the lifetime warranty routine from Autozone. They have ceramic that get a lifetime warranty. I change the pads every other summer along with the rotors. I do it because it's free, I recently learned how to and because I like to keep everything greased up. My jk is rusting a lot because of ocean water.

I also went with Bosch coated rotors. You get up to 3 years and can return them once for free for a brand new set.

So I'm on my 4th free set of pads and my second free set of rotors. I also flush the brake fluid every 30k.
