Default Broken cable on transfer case

Well my transfer case cable clip on the shifter side disintegrated today (09 JK). What a mammoth pain it was to fix a super simple item. If you haven't done one yet, it requires that you take the transfer case shifter knob off (lots of clips hidden), remove the council (the emergency brake handle will be a challenge). I couldn't get all of it off of the emergency brake so I just ended up bending the plastic of the council up to get at the shifter clip. It was disintegrated.

Chrysler did not have any in stock here and there weren't any in LA either. They will have one in a week. Regardless, I went to Autozone, got a package of brass bushings for a Ford door hinge of some kind and some e-clips. The bushing installed like a factory job and the clip snapped right on.

I don't understand why that wasn't how it was done at Jeep. Also, a little access door on the side of the council would be perfect to get at the shifter. I might cut one and use either a body plug or some other custom cover. It will beat the hell out of wrestling with the plastic and probably breaking something next time.

Part number on the bushings?

It would be great to replace this at home instead of out on the trail someday!

The part number/info for the bushings from Autozone is as follows:

38374 HELP! GM/Dodge/Ford Door Hinge Bushings, 8 PC

Sorry there aren't any pictures of the process. It was still over 100 degrees, dark, and I did not disassemble things to the point that it would have been any good. I really think I will be cutting an access point in the plastic and making a custom plate for it. It will save a couple of hours and a lot of cursing.
