Default Building from up from stock base

Fellas,

I'm relatively new at this stuff. I going to be getting a new jeep in a year or so and the long term plan is to build it up. I eventually want a lift, new wheels/tires, lockers, sliders, bumpers etc. Should I start with the base sport? Will I need anything that is found in the higher models? Or is everything pretty much upgradable? Is it more cost-efficient too start with one of the higher models?

I would say since your new at this, go with the basic sport and upgrade as you see fit. Just get a feel for what it can do. (Which is alot) after all it is a jeep! I got a sport bc I knew I was going to upgrade alot. Just really depends on what you want it to do in the end

My answer is based purely on looks but I think I like 35s, maybe even 37s. I'd like to get the 17" black AEV wheels and their 3.5 or 4.5 (depending on the tires I decide upon) suspension system.

Random model question - if I want power windows, keyless entry, and that type of stuff, do I need to get the "Sport S" instead of the plain sport? What other options are important or can't be built in later by me?

for me the keyless entry and power option was pointless i have a 2 door. and plan on when its nice out taking the doors off.. 4 doors its a nice feature. but my left and right power arms work just fine for this!

Convenience features are for the wife. All those extras seem like they'd add up quickly. I dont know what half of that stuff is. Is there good online, one-stop resource to read and learn about those parts? Thanks for all he input.

This forum. This is by far the best place to learn about parts and the workings of your JK when you get it. I've learned more than I ever thought possible after joining this forum. Just use the search bar if you have a question, and just flip through threads to see if something catches your eye. Checking out other people's rigs is a great way to decide what you want to customize your own Jeep.

the sahara and sport (x) are pretty much the same IMO except for the fenders, if u dont plan on using lockers that much then u wont rlly need a rubicon, so yea if i were u id start with the sport, its wut i did and i dont regret it one bit

I bought a base X model and have been building it. I think it is a great starting point. The only advise I have for you is to add A/C and don't get the 3.21 gears.
