Default A/C = Dehumidifier??

I've come to accept that my soft top leaks. Oh well...

But with the water in there, the jeep has been more like a tropical rain forest inside. It's quite humid, and I'd like to keep the mold down in there..

I know that some A/C's double as dehumidfiers. Is this true with all A/C's? What setting do I need it on, if it is true? Recirculate? Any setting???

Now, if i have the heat control set to the warmest setting, put the A/C on, will this also work as a dehumidifier in the colder climate???

All air conditioners take water out of the air. I would think Recirculate would be better, But I am no expert.

actually, A/C in vent mode (outside air) will work the best.. also, Im pretty certain that once you put the JK on defrost mode, it also turns on the compressor...

Another good way to cut this down, buy the deflectors for the top of your windows and leave them cracked, even if is raining outside. the humidity built up inside of the Jeep will always be higher even if a monsoon is goin down outside. The cross ventilation while the JK is parked will help that damp feeling when you get in (even the mold smell which will get worse and warse with time). Hope this idea helps!

Yes, all A/Cs are dehumidifiers. If you're fogging up, always turn it on.

Yes, on my jeep the A/C is auto turned on when defrost is turned on - a feature I had never seen before in a vehicle.

I disagree on the outside air - I've always found that using the A/C in vent mode is much worse than using recirculated air. Mostly because the recirculated air is always much dryer than the outside air.

Go to a store that sells camping supplies or where they sell campers and maybe pick up something like this. I never used this brand per say just a similar product works rather well.

I have never had a vehicle that didn't turn on the AC compressor when you put it on defrost. That is how they get the air dry inside.

My chevy and hondas never turned it on automatically. Guess they were too old.

hummm...My 79 chevy did. Also my 86 chevy and 85 Ford. Those were the oldest that I had with AC. It might no turn on an AC light or anything, but when you turn the dial to defrost, it activates the relay for the AC compressor. (This is for vehicle that had factory AC, if it was added by dealer it does not always work the same.) Don't know for sure on Hondas, never had one, and prob never will.

What makes the A/C a dehumidifier is that it chills the air which in turn condenses the moisture, thats why after you have the A/C on and park your car there is a puddle underneath it. Definitely leave it on Recirc. and no it won't work if you put the heat on.
