Exclamation center console sub-frame removal (PICS on post #8)

i've been tearing my rubi apart getting it ready for line-x. when i pulled the console i noticed the frame it attaches to is rather rusty. since i have everything apart i figure i'd like to pull it out, hit it with a wire wheel, and blast it with the ol rattle can. the e brake is no big deal, but there is a little black box with wires going to it towards the rear of the sub-frame (where the e brake cables go thru the tub). what is this box for and is it ok to just unplug it? then there's the airbag sensor box. i know u need to disconnect the battery for at least 2 mins b4 messing with the system, but once disconnected, can i just pull the box? can i reconnect the battery and drive it to get lined without these 2 boxes? cuz it'd be great to be able to have all of that out of there and get the tub underneath that area sprayed. any info is appreciated. oh, and i can post pics if anybody isn't clear about what i'm talking about

almost 100 views and nobody can tell me anything? i might just go for it and hope for the best. might get a trouble code, might get an airbag to the face. maybe nothing will happen and it will all go seamlessly (yeah right). however this pans out, i'll be sure to post the outcome to hopefully help someone else later on down the line. i'll start tomorrow after work. wish me luck

I wish I had the answer. Good Luck. An airbag to the face wouldn't be too fun. Now I'm getting interested.

Default not a precise answer to your question, but...

Someone on this forum did an "Overdrive off by default" to his automatic trans Jeep and started a thread describing his procedure. That thread included the following link. At that link there are several pages of diagrams and technical data in reference to the area covered by that center console. Perhaps that may help you...at least some:

thanks for the replies. unfortunately the link didn't help because i've already got the entire console completely out of the jeep.

i'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow. i'd go take some now but i just got done a 15hr day at work and it's dark out. hopefully my camera is still working after falling in the mud after wheelin the other day

i'm also going to try to pm a few members who have gotten their jk lined and try to get some answers. i know somebody has dealt with removing the wires because they have to be moved in order to spray the tub. they go across the floor right under the passenger seat, so we'll see.

i'm pretty sure i know how i'm going to remove the metal frame (well, frames. it's actually 2 pieces) but i need to look at it a bit more tomorrow. i'll get into my little plan a bit more once i iron out the details. i'll also be sure to post any new info as i get it.

well my camera is MIA, but i snapped a couple with my phone. quality isn't too great but u can still see everything. oh, and i finished removing the crap on the floorboards but it rained right as i went to clean out the dust so now there's crap EVERYWHERE! so yeah, that explains the nasty grey stuff all over the place

this is the entire assembly

this is the front half. you can see it stops right before the airbag box

this is the rear half. it starts behind the airbag box

this is the airbag box itself

and these two are of the little mystery box on the rear section

now i know i can remove the pieces to clean and paint them. i'll just unbolt the little box from the rear frame, leaving it plugged in while the frame is out. it may be a chore getting the front section out. i'll just unbolt the t-case shifter assembly and let it hang. only problem will be fighting the wiring going across it as well as the shifter. we shall see tho.

i still need to know about the damn airbag box tho. if it can be driven without them attached and not throw a code then i can get EVERYTHING sprayed, not just the floor up to where the console is. and i'm still curious about the little mystery box. any info or help is appreciated

Module, Occupant Restraint??? Part Number 68030604AC. Just an idea. That seems to be the only thing in there besides the Airbag Impact Sensor.
