Default Change to full synthetic at 10k km's

So I had a regular oil change at 5k km's and am now coming up on the 10k service. I have the option to switch over to Mobil 1 and am wondering if it's worth the extra or not.

If you're gonna change oil that often, you maybe just should stay with the dino stuff. Synthetic is just good for so much longer.

I switched over at the 3000 mile (5000 km) mark to mobile one. I am currently running full syn royal purple, but it is a personal preference thing. As long as you run regular oil long enough to break in the engine (most oil companies Ive talked to say you are broken in enough within the 3000 mile mark) it doesn't matter much what you run after that. I am almost at 20K without a single problem and zero oil consumption.

The reason I run full syn oils is for 2 reasons:
1. I drive my vehicles until they are beyond repair (my only other vehicle I have ever had was my last Jeep that had over 200,000 miles when I scrapped it for $500 toward my JK). With synthetics it basically assures that the body will rust out and the entire vehicle will fall apart around the engine and transmission before the engine or transmission fails.

2. If a leak ever does develop in the old age of the vehicle (happened once or twice in my last Jeep) it gives you that little bit of extra protection and wiggle room before you seize the engine or blow the transmission. With the royal purple a leak and lack of attention once caused me to drive 3 hours with 2 quarts of oil (out of 6) in the old 4.0 in my last Jeep running on a 100 degree summer day once. Made me a fan of the wiggle room allowed by synth oil.

Hey not to be a turd but Royal Purple is very expensive for what you get. The base oil used in Royal Purple is not as good as a Valvoline, Mobile 1, or AMSOIL. You can get a premium filter (Bosch, KN...) and 5 quarts of Valvoline syntec for $30 on special at Autozone/Advanced auto....

Royal Purple has not matched up to other Synthetics in many studies that have been done.
