Default Change Oil Alert

My change oil warning on the dash has come on at 2500 miles. I usually change the oil at 3000. The oil level is OK. Can I wait until 3000 miles or should I do it now? Or is this just a warning that you are within 500 miles of the recommended oil change?

I think it comes on at different times based on your driving style. That is the most premature I have ever heard of.

yeah, something doesn't seem right. I can drive to 6000 miles or more with no oil change warning light. I did mine every 6K with Full Synth oil

My 2008 Sahara came on the same time. It's my daily drive doing mostly highway miles. A guy at work w/ a 2007 Sahara came on at 9000. They obviously made some changes from 2007 to 2008 in the computer.

The dealers set it - typically, the "Change the Oil" message at the odometer is a 500 mile heads-up.

The Owners manual says at 6k....my dealer set it 3K, so it went off at about 2,500 miles.

It's programmable by the dealer? Any way to back that up because just by reading the few here and others it seems that every dealer for 07 set it to around 9k while all the 08s were set to 3k. That suggests a level of coordination unprecedented among dealerships.

I am wondering then if it is just a 2500 mile setting that comes from the factory. I check the oil and the level was good. I was just wondering if there might be something else going on that would indicate a larger problem.
