Default Confused

So is the "change Oil" based on driving parameters or purely miles?

Duty cycle.

The algorithm is a proprietary trade secret. But is likely to include (among many other parameters) information about number of cold starts, time run at operating temperature, (time at) RPMs, operating hours, ambient temp, total revolutions, etc. etc.

What it doesn't take into account is dusty environment, type or grade or quality of oil, or the condition of the engine (blowby gasses, fuel contamination, bad or failing emission systems, etc.

It just another tool in the box. Plenty of folks can't/won't accept it or learn how to use it sensibly. But it beats going by mileage alone.
