Default Changed Tranny Filter today...Is this normal?

So I got under the JK today and removed the skid plate protecting my tranny pan (Pretty impressed with the factory skid plate pretty damn solid and heavy). After getting all the bolts loose (the four in the back are a bitch...who thought of placing them above an exhaust) After fighting with those 4 bolts I dropped the pan let all the tranny fluid that could drain do so as I removed the old gasket seal and replaced it with a new one. I then replaced the tranny filter and after screwing on the filter I replaced the tranny pan and bolted it back into place. Nice easy job
My question is when refilling the tranny with ATF+4 is it common to need 6 quarts? I was thinking it might take less than 3 maybe at the most 4 but 6? I didn't think that much would come out with only droppin the pan. I wasn't watching the fluid when it was draining out because I was fixing the new gasket and such and there's no way for me to tell how much drained by looking into the container because it had other tranny fluid already in it, so any info would be appreciated. Thanks...

I have never done mine so don't go 100% off of what I am going to say, but it seems like most of the reading I have done says around 4.
