Default Check engine light help

48000 miles on my 2010's 3.8 - check engine light came on this morning. Ran ruff revved high when lifting off the gas. Made it to work. Checked for codes. No codes. Oil was not low.

Made it how taking it easy. Light still on. Getting a quick oil change with fingers crossed but I am worried.

Arrow check engine light?

most of the time, for me, its' the darn gas cap, mine doesnt hang on, so i usually leave it at the gas station! x4 ! i am now leaving on my seat. i would have to sit on it before i leave. the other 2 times it was the o2 sensor (smog stuff) good luck! --lindasjeep.

OMG! I think it WAS the gas cap!?!

My wife put gas in her last night as a favor- just went out to check cap after reading above post and sure enough it was not on right. Started her up and light is off.

I'm very happy

So, if the cap is off it causes a rough engine?

The old trick I used to use with gas caps that aren't attached is to put the cap into the place on the pump that holds the pump nozzle. That way you have to move it so you can put the nozzle back onto the pump.

The other thing that caused the same issues for me was a bad spark lead. If it comes and goes check them and replace them. I only had 50,000km on it at the time.

I bought a cheap locking gas cap years ago. The key for it is on my ignition key ring. I leave the key in the cap while fueling which means I am not going anywhere (since my ignition key is with it) until I put the cap on and lock it so I can pull the key out.

Has worked well for not forgetting the gas cap.
