Interesting idea but a little drastic just to get a diesel. For what the donor vehicle cost, you could do a full turn key hemi or LS1 and have a buttload of money left over.

 

Why wait for the 2014 Cherokee Diesel?
My better half drives a 2008 1/2 Cherokee with the Mercedes 3.0L It was the last of a lot of years they were offered.
Her WK has a 7200 lb tow capacity and the performance is unreal. It's not like an old truck chugger.
If you really want to experiment get on the auto wrecker websites to find a write off tail ended or roll over.

You can also check out the years that the Liberty was Diesel. I think they were the 2.8 L that is available
around the entire world in the JK except Canada / USA / Mexico thanks to California emmissions stup.......

 

The Liberty diesels were sold in Canada.
