Default Chrome Fuel Filler Door came off... anyone else have this happen?

Hey all,
I stopped for gas today, and noticed when I was done that the fuel door didn't feel right. I stopped to wipe the tears from my eyes ($4.00 for the cheap stuff..) and the door felt like it was missing something to keep tension?

would someone else who has the Mopar chrome fuel door mind checking theirs out and see if there's a pin, or rubber bumper or something to keep it in there.. I can't see anything broken.. maybe take a pic for me of what the hinge side looks like?

eh.. i wanted a black one anyway but figured I could just paint this one..

I think your Jeep is trying to tell you it hates chrome.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I can take some pics of my fuel door tomorrow - I have the Mopar black one though - and post them up. In the meantime, maybe you could take pics of yours so we can better understand what the issue is...

will do. i'm sure it hates chrome as much as I do. I loved it back on my 84 Buick Regal.. my CJ had all kinds of stainless.. i prefer black or color matched now. Our JK has the chrome grill, chrome fuel door, chrome light guards.. im thinking they're all going to be semi gloss black by Summer's end.

thanks

I had the spring pop out of mine at the gas station once. Almost took my eye out! After that the door just flapped around. I managed to find it, but perhaps yours is missing?

I suspected the existence of a wayward spring - anyone got a pic of it, or how it sits in there? maybe I can find something that will work.

That happened to my fuel door, lost the plunger and the spring so I chopped up a flat headed pen cap to fit and used a couple of springs from some other pens...works fine.

if this happens to anyone else in the future - a generic spring from a hardware store screen door/misc hardware section and a rubber vacuum cap did the trick.
my dealership couldn't figure out any part numbers for anything but the whole new assembly.
if you need any pics let me know.
cheers
