Default Cleaning the radiator?

After going through some mud I'm having some overheating issues and my radiator fan has stopped working. Does anyone know of a writeup anywhere explaing how to get the fan out and get access to the radiator to clean it? Thanks.

I had the same problem. I used garden hose and sprayed it in the back of the fan motor while turning the fan blades. Then just hosed the the rad real good

It has been working just fine so far

Key off when doing the above to the fan

Run the vehicle and pressure wash it from the inside out.

When my Jeep was brand new I took it for it's first wash. There were some bugs on the radiator, so I pointed the high pressure wand at it, about two feet away. It peeled off all of the paint, and bent the radiator fins in a large slash across the front of my radiator. I recommend to not get a high pressure wand anywhere near the radiator.

Accessing the area between the radiators is easy.

1. Remove the upper plastic cover by prying off the plastic plugs. Keep these, or go to HFT to purchase new ones.

2. There are 2 10mm bolts that hold the top pf the fan onto the rear radiator. Remove these. Undo the fan motor wiring harnes at the top of the shroud.

3. The fan shroud and fan are "clipped" in at the bottom. Just tilt the shroud back slightly and pull up. You can wiggle it a little side to side to help dislodge the clips.

4. You can now tilt the rear radiator back about 2" to help in clearing out that area. Use only a garden hose with a spray nozzel. DO NOT use high pressure as stated above.

5. Assemble in reverse order.

I did sprayed from all three side to clean mine out. So far my over heating problems have not returned.

This weekend is Wharton though...

Be VERY CAREFUL power washing any Rad.
Those fins are bendy.

I have my own pressure washer with an adjustable nozzle. Maybe I should have mentioned that. Good call Mark.

Just find a nice river...drive through....

I just use a garden hose and it works dandy! Like Mark mentioned.....pressure wands are not radiator friendly up close!

I have a JK CRD, and I had problem with the AC and overheating water temp. (over 3/4 gauge temp) and loss power engine. My dealer tell me the problem is the accumulation mud in back of the main radiator, but I had notice in other dealer the problem is the bad working of the viscous fan.
My dealer has dismounted and cleaned the radiators. and has blocked the viscous fan.

Adios.
